Project Info

Lara Lara is a transformation of an existing Edwardian weatherboard two-storey home in leafy Malvern. Needing major structural upgrade and with a difficult triangular site, the existing home had a poor relationship to the garden. Everything blocked the view, from the enclosed deck with balustrade and close planting, to the kitchen which blocked the light and the view. Some simple moves have significantly transformed the ambience of the entire house and garden. By relocating the kitchen to the back wall of the house where adjacent butlers pantry, laundry and stair could be tucked in adjacent, reworking windows between the garden and widened open plan living, and adding the feature steel bifold between living and dining we were able to unlock the enclosed feel and completely open up to nature. The new deck now tiers subtly, connecting to the ground with different levels that allow a natural physical and visual connection to the garden.
